Easily create straps for all your creative needs!

The 1" Strap Maker makes it easy to take a 4" wide strip of fabric and turn it into a 1" wide strap.

The 1" Strap Maker is actually two tools in one:  a double fold tool to take the fabric from 4" to 2", and a Third Hand Binding Folder to take the fabric from 2" to 1".

Each tool comes with a fabric feeder to help keep the fabric from twisting as it is pulled into the tool and each tool comes with a 6" x 2" piece of grip strip to help hold the tool to your ironing or sewing surface.

You can even use the tool to help hold the straps straight as you topstitch them with your sewing machine!
Part 1:  4" to 2"
  • Start with a 4" strip of fabric.
    • If you need to join several pieces together, press the seams open to reduce bulk.
  • Fuse a lightweight stabilizer to the wrong side of the fabric, if desired.  (I like Heat n Bond Feather Weight.)
  • Take the tool off of your ironing surface (it's easiest to load the tool when you can easily move it around).
  • Fold the two sides of the fabric into the center (right side down) as pictured below:

  • Slide the fabric into the loader as pictured below:

  • At this point, I like to put the tool back onto my ironing surface to continue the loading process.

  • Mount the Strap Maker tool onto your ironing surface.
  • Use the wing nut to tighten it into place.  If it's very loose, you can use the piece of shelf liner that came with your tool to help hold it in place.

  • Load the fabric into the slot.

  • If you have trouble loading the tool while it's on your ironing surface, remove it and load the fabric before returning it to the ironing surface.
Picture
  • Pull out enough fabric so that you can begin to iron it without touching the iron to the tool (and without burning your fingers!)
Picture
  • Set the iron onto the strap and slowly pull the fabric through the tool with one hand while holding onto the iron with your other hand.

  • Your fabric is being folded from the original 4" to 2" wide.

  • Notice that the fabric feeder is helping to pre-fold the fabric as it is fed into the tool to help keep it from twisting.

  • Continue pulling the fabric through the tool and pressing it with your iron until the entire length is folded and pressed.

Part 2:  2" to 1"
If you want a crisp folded edge, then use the 3rd Hand Binding Tool on top of the Strap Maker to fold the fabric in half again:

Place into the fabric loader with the fold on the left.

Put into the 3rd Hand Tool on top to align and fold the fabric.

Place through the loop on the front of the tool, pull out enough so you can press with your iron.
Part 3:  Topstitching
Picture
  • Place the grip strip onto the edge of your sewing surface to help grip the tool.
Picture
  • Position the tool onto the grip strip and tighten (it will not be a super tight grip, but it won't fall off during use.)
Picture
  • Load the fabric into the loader and then into the 3rd Hand Folder on the top of the tool.
  • Do not load the fabric into the loop on the front of the tool--this will provide too much tension because the loop is facing down and the fabric needs to go up to your sewing machine.
Picture
  • Make sure the strap is positioned where you want it to be for the perfect topstitch width.  (Move the tool to the right or left if necessary.)

  • Topstitch your strap on one side, then reload the strap so you can easily topstitch the other side of your strap.

  • Enjoy!
